Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics (IHP)

IHP`s activities are concentrated on the research and development of silicon-based systems, high-frequency circuits and technologies including new materials. It develops innovative solutions for applications such as wireless and broadband communication, aerospace, biotechnology, health, automotive industry, security and industrial automation.

The institute is working on the following four closely connected research programs:

  • Wireless Systems and Applications: The program is focused on high performance wireless systems, low power wireless sensor networks including new middleware concepts and encryption technologies as well as methods for higher reliability and testability of circuits.
  • RF Circuits: The main activities of this program are directed on integrated mm-wave circuits & synthesizers, broadband mixed signal circuits as well as circuits for low power wireless applications.
  • Technology Platform for Wireless and Broadband Communication: This program is focused on high performance silicon based technologies, technologies for embedded systems, and the provision of technology access for designers in the framework of a multi project wafer and prototyping service. The basis of these services is IHP`s pilot line with 0.13 µm SiGe BiCMOS technology.
  • Materials for Micro- and Nanoelectronics: Materials research at IHP targets the integration of new materials and device concepts into modern silicon BiCMOS technologies. “More than Moore“-approaches for new Terahertz- and Photonic applications are of particular importance.

IHP is currently working together with four universities in Joint Labs. It cooperates in research projects with more than 290 international companies, universities and research institutions.
