What value does the past have for past and present societies? How is
this value created and conveyed? These questions are at the core of the Leibniz research network “Value of the Past”. Its members examine in German, European and global dimensions how historical evidence is shaped by language, mediality and digitality, how ideas of space and time shape images of history, and how the past as a resource is used for community processes and identity conflicts as well as in an ever-growing historical market. The association was founded as successor of the Leibniz research association “Historical Authenticity”.
