Scientific and administrative managers in Leibniz institutions face complex management tasks. As well as recruiting and managing staff and resource planning, they have to develop the organisation sustainably, formulate visions and strategies and work with their staff to implement them. Themes like safeguarding good scientific practice, joint appointments, equality, diversity and digitalisation are seen as leadership tasks and place particularly high demands on top managers.

Leibniz leadership lecture programme

To strengthen the leadership culture and improve leadership skills, the Leibniz Association promotes networking between colleagues and shared learning experiences. One successful, established format is the Leibniz leadership lecture programme (Führungskolleg), which covers Leibniz-specific management topics and enables managers to discuss ideas with their management colleagues, supplemented by external perspectives – from other organisations or policymakers.
