Research in Germany
If you are thinking of studying or pursuing research in Germany, please consult Research in Germany and the DAAD IC office in Australia for funding possibilities and career opportunities.
The Leibniz Association connects 96 independent research institutions that range in focus from natural, engineering and environmental sciences to economics, spatial and social sciences and the humanities. Leibniz Institutes address issues of social, economic and ecological relevance.
They conduct basic and applied research, including in the interdisciplinary Leibniz Research Alliances, maintain scientific infrastructure, and provide research-based services. The Leibniz Institutes employ around 20,000 people, including 10,000 researchers. The financial volume amounts to 1.9 billion euros.
Your career with Leibniz
Once you have found a Leibniz Institute that suits your research interests, please contact the PI of your choice directly and consult them about opportunities. By the way – you do not have to speak German!
The Leibniz Association wants to attract the best scientists worldwide. In 2018, international scientists accounted for 23% of academic staff, 33% of doctoral students and 32% of post-doctoral researchers.
