Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ), Großbeeren

The Leibniz-Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) aims for excellence in horticultural research and related plant, environmental, nutritional and social sciences. IGZ is based in Großbeeren close to Berlin and is a member of the Leibniz Association. IGZ conducts strategic and international research for the sustainable production and use of vegetables, contributing to food security, human well-being and the conservation of natural resources. At IGZ, researchers from different disciplines work together on core-funded and grant-funded projects, in collaboration with national and international research partners.

We are looking for a

Biological- or Chemical technical assistant (f/m/d)

Reference number 32/2019/1

The working place will be at Großbeeren starting on February 1st 2020 and is limited to September 30th 2021. The salary will be based on qualification and research experience according to the wage agreement TV-L, salary domain east, up to EG 9a regular working time (part-time employment is possible).

The position is offered in the frame of a European project (VEG_ADAPT)  and is under joint leadership of three working groups, FUNCT.3 Dr. Dietmar Schwarz, FUNCT.2 Prof. Frederik Börnke, and QUALITY.2 Prof. Susanne Baldermann (https://www.igzev.de/schwerpunkt_type/).

Tasks include

  • self-reliant execution and evaluation of experiments with horticultural crops in greenhouses and growth chambers, including preparation of plant samples for molecular biological and (bio)chemical analyses
  • molecular biological work, as extraction of nucleic acids, PCR, real-time PCR and electrophoresis
  • preparation of chemical analytics with UHPLC-QToF-MS and GC-MS/MS
  • assistance in lab-organization and acquisition

We expect

  • officially recognized professional qualification as biological or chemical technical assistant or comparable qualification
  • very good methodic knowledge in handling of crops and in the area of molecular biology
  • skills to work self-reliant
  • ability to work in a team and willingness to collaborate with national and international partners
  • very good knowledge of English
