With its work, the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) contributes to a better understanding of plant systems and thus to the development of sustainable and resilient horticulture. The IGZ conducts research at the interface between plants, humans and the environment. In doing so, we address systemic and global challenges such as biodiversity loss, climate change, urbanization and malnutrition. We provide scientifically sound recommendations for healthy agri-food systems and sustainable interactions with the environment. The IGZ brings together a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines. Employees with different backgrounds conduct research in national and international research co-operations. The IGZ is based in Großbeeren near Potsdam and near Berlin and is a member of the Leibniz Association.

At IGZ in Großbeeren the following position is available in the programme area Functional Plant Biology, research group “Temperature Sensing in Plants”:

Biological-technical assistant (f,m,d)

Reference number: 29/2023/1

Employment will be initially at first for two years. The salary will be based on qualification and research experience according to the wage agreement TV-L, up to pay scale 9a, full-time. The position is suitable for part-time work.

Tasks include

  • cultivation of plants under experimental conditions, including preparation of plant samples for further molecular biological and biochemical analyses
  • tissue culture work for the production and maintenance of transgenic plants Application of microbiological working methods
  • molecular biological work such as production of vector constructs for protein expression in plants (cloning), yeasts and bacteria or nucleic acid extraction, PCR, real-time PCR and electrophoresis
  • biochemical work such as western blotting, protein purification
  • instructing students and PhD students, e.g. in laboratory procedures and methods
  • laboratory organization and procurement of materials

We are looking for candidates with

  • cultivation of plants under experimental conditions, including preparation of plant samples for further molecular biological and biochemical analyses
  • a successfully completed education as a biological-technical assistant or a comparable education
  • very good methodological knowledge in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry and microbiology
  • willingness and committed, independent work
  • high sense of responsibility, accuracy and ability to concentrate
  • very good written and spoken English
  • ability to work in a team and willingness to integrate into an international working environment
