The Leibniz-Institute of Photonic Technology (LIPHT) offers the following one full time position in the research department Fiber Optics:

Business and managerially oriented expert (m/f/d)

to join a team, which will apply for translational funding (BMWE’s EXIST scheme) in order to establish a spin-out company. If the application is successful, the candidate will become an employee of Leibniz-IPHT for a period of 18 months.  Further, if the company is successfully established, the candidate is expected to become its founder and/or employee.

If funding application successful, the start expected summer 2021.

The position should be filled as soon as the suitable candidate has been found.

IPHT is a non-university research institute with close connection to the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and member of the Leibniz association.

The aim of the spin-out

This endeavour sets out to develop and bring to market hair-thin endoscopic devices, sending back high-quality images from unprecedented depths of the most delicate tissues of human body. The concept will provide insight into functionality of the brain and will assist in biological and medical environments addressing severe neuronal impairments such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, hence enable understanding the causes of our current and upcoming societal challenges related to dementia.

Successful candidate will conduct a relevant bio-medical market research and develop a business plan, under a guidance of experienced mentor.

Person specification

Candidate should meet the following criteria:


  • Business/Management Degree, either held at present or expected to obtain in academic year 2020/21
  • Fluent in English and German languages


  • Affinity to Optics or Photonics
  • Willingness to assist in tackling societal challenges  related to dementia

Salary: German tariffs for public employees (TV-L)
