The position is offered for 3 years.
The Research Center Borstel (RCB) is an internationally operating Lung Center within the Leibniz Association, financed by the Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Our central task is basic and translational research in the field of respiratory diseases. We operate extensive laboratory and research infrastructures. Academically, we are closely linked with neighboring universities (Lübeck, Kiel) and clinically with the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. Our goal is to improve existing methods for the detection, prevention and treatment of lung diseases and to develop new, innovative therapeutic approaches.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Microbiologist with experience in in vitro culture of Mycobacteria or comparable bacterial pathogens, which belong to biological safety levels 2 and/or 3. The successful candidate should be familiar with working in high safety standards and well-versed in safety protocols. You will be part of the multi-disciplinary international network, ERA4TB, which is dedicated to accelerating the development of new treatment regimens for tuberculosis. Your task will be to design and conduct the exploration of new drug candidates concerning the evolution of drug resistance in Mycobacteria in vitro.
The research group at RCB has exceptional expertise in the application of modern sequencing technologies for the detection of resistance mutations and surveillance analyses of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains. Furthermore, our research group works closely with the National Reference Center for Mycobacteria, which is also located at the RCB and has extensive knowledge in in vitro culture of mycobacteria, phenotypic drug testing, and infection models.
YOUR QUALIFICATION
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Microbiology, Bacteriology, Molecular Biology)
- Experience in in vitro culture of pathogens (preferably bacteria) of safety level 2 and/or 3
- Experience in molecular biology (NGS, transcriptome analysis)
- Knowledge of NGS data analysis
- Excellent communication skills (English)
- Experience in writing publications in international journals
- Experience working in a cross-functional and multi-cultural team environment
- Self-initiative based on high self-motivation
