PhD student (f/m/d)

Leibniz Association, Brussels

The DWI – Leibniz-Institute for Interactive Materials is a federal and state funded research institute of the Leibniz Association based on the Melaten campus of RWTH Aachen University. International young and experienced scientists from various disciplines develop interactive materials based on the principles of nature. It is a location at which people with different talents, experiences and skills work together, in order to learn from one another and generate new knowledge and new methods to create a better quality of life in our world.

DWI invites the application for a

PhD student (f/m/d)

in the field of polymer chemistry

DWI offers you a wide range of possibilities to develop further both professionally and personally in an interdisciplinary setting.

As soon as possible, you will design and synthesize functional colloidal microgels in your PhD thesis within the scope of the SFB 985, which can change their crosslinking density either by mechanical force or by irradiation with light. These microgels are then examined in collaboration with physical chemistry for their properties and in collaboration with biology for their cellular uptake. The aim is to explore the parameter space of microgel properties that is relevant for the uptake of such colloids in cells and thus to be able to assess how they behave in living systems. Your duties also include participating in teaching and training at RWTH Aachen.

Your profile:

  • University degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in chemistry with excellent qualifications
  • Above-average skills in preparative organic synthetic chemistry and/or synthetic chemistry of polymers and colloids, respectively
  • Interested in working on a multidisciplinary project
  • Safe command of German and English
  • Communication and team skills

DWI offers:

  • Exciting and challenging tasks as well as development opportunities in a modern scientific organization
  • An open and team-oriented working atmosphere in an international environment
  • The support of an experienced team
  • Flexible and family-friendly working conditions

The 3-year position is to be filled at the earliest possible date. Employment, remuneration and benefits are based on the collective agreement for public service of the federal states (TV-L).

There is a possibility to fulfill the position in part-time, unless there are compelling professional reasons to do otherwise.

DWI supports you to gain further qualifications. We offer our employees a broad spectrum of career opportunities in an attractive working climate https://www.dwi.rwth-aachen.de/seite/institutskultur.
