PhD student (m/f/d)
Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB), Halle
The Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry in Halle (Saale), a research institute of the Leibniz Association, is offering a three-year position in the frame of a DFG-funded project for a
PhD student (m/f/d)
at the Department of Metabolism and Cell Biology, working group “Jasmonate Function & Mycorrhiza”.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student (m/f/d) to characterize two terpene synthases. Special attention will be paid to elucidate the function of the produced terpenes in pathogen defense in roots of the model legume Medicago truncatula. The work is based on our previous data on one of the terpene synthases (Yadav et al. , Plant Physiology 180: 1598-1613) and will contribute to the understanding of the role of these enzymes in the defense reaction of Medicago roots against the oomycete Aphanomyces euteiches. Molecular biological and biochemical methods will be applied.
The potential candidates (m/f/d) should be creative, ambitious and highly motivated. Fascination for plant physiology as well as for the investigation of signaling processes and host-pathogen interactions is a prerequisite. Previous experience in plant biology is an advantage, but is not strictly required. Good writing and communication skills are also essential.
Prerequisites: Completed Master’s Degree in biology, biochemistry or agricultural sciences
The Department of Metabolic and Cell Biology offers a creative and international environment, therefore knowledge of the English language is an advantage. Information about the working group and the IPB can be found on the homepage: www.ipb-halle.de
The salary is based on the grid of the public service of the federal states (TV-L).
