Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW)
The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) is a non-university research institute and a member of the Leibniz Association. The IFW employs approximately 600 people and one focus is on the training of young scientists (m/f/d) besides enhancing fundamental and applied research development. At the highest international level, the IFW operates modern materials science on a scientific basis and makes the obtained results useful for the economy. The complex and interdisciplinary research work is carried out within the IFW by five scientific institutes, which are supported by a highly developed technical infrastructure. The IFW supports its employees (m/f/d) in reconciling work and family life and regularly submits to the berufundfamilie® audit.
research group of "Chemistry of Functional Materials"
The Institute for Complex Materials (IKM) - of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research - IFW Dresden - is looking for a highly motivated early stage researcher (m/f/d) to join the research group of "Chemistry of Functional Materials" as PhD student/doctoral student (m/f/d) from 1.11.2021.
Your main tasks:
Within a DFG-funded project on „Electrochemical nanostructuring of surfaces of metallic glass-forming alloys for biomedical use“, your research work will comprise the synthesis of metallic glass-forming alloys and their microstructural and mechanical characterization. The main focus will be on electrochemical surface modification methods and the analysis of related electrochemical reactions as well as on analytical studies of resulting surface states.
All candidates (m/f/d), with a strong background and a successful Diploma or Master degree in the area of chemistry (physical chemistry), of materials science (metals) or of metal physics are encouraged to apply. An adequate knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical methods, of surface analytical techniques as well of microstructural and mechanical characterization methods of metallic materials is needed. Basic knowledge in biocompatibility evaluation of metallic implant materials is desirable. A high readiness for collaboration in an interdisciplinary and international research team is expected.
What we offer:
The salary will be based upon the TV-L rules (TV-L E 13). The contract will be limited to 3years.
The institute promotes the professional equality between all genders. The IFW would like to increase the proportion of women in science. Qualified women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Severely disabled applicants (m/f/d) are given preferential treatment if they have the same qualifications.
