The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises eight non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.

WIAS invites in the Research Group ”Nonsmooth Variational Problems and Operator Equations” (Head: Prof. Dr. M. Hintermüller) applications for a

PhD Student Position (f/m/d)

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The aim of the post is to carry out research in the field of mathematical imaging and applications.  Furthermore, research results will be published in scientific journals, presented at conferences and a dissertation will be written in the above mentioned main topic.

Prerequisite: A scientifically oriented person with an above-average master's/diploma degree in mathematics with a focus on applied mathematics; knowledge in the calculus of variations, optimization with partial differential equations, their numerical solution and mathematical image processing. Furthermore, the holder of the position is willing to cooperate with users and subject-related colleagues.

The position is remunerated according to TVöD and is limited to three years with a reduced working time of 29.25 hours per week.
