For the departments Biology and Ecology and Fish and Ecosystem Research of IGB in Berlin-Friedrichshagen at Lake Müggelsee we are inviting applications for the position of a

Post-doc position in Aquatic Ecology (m/f/d)

for 36 months, starting as of 1st March 2021.

We are searching for a highly motivated young researcher who is interested in the interactions between biodiversity, ecosystem functions and services, and the effect of climate change on ponds. The position is part of the PONDERFUL international consortium with 18 partners from 11 countries, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 framework. Besides addressing the project-specific tasks, we encourage the post-doc to develop an independent research program, focusing for example on organismal size distributions and ecosystem functions, on the contribution of organisms to carbon and nutrient cycles in ponds, or on the resilience of ecosystem services of ponds to climate change. 

Your tasks

  • Sampling and analyses of biodiversity, abiotic conditions and greenhouse gases in German ponds
  • Contribution to analysis of local pondscapes as nature-based solutions
  • Data exchange, collaboration and mutual support within the PONDERFUL consortium
  • Development of an independent research program, ideally linking PONDERFUL with other research activities at IGB

Your profile

  • Motivation to develop your own scientific profile while working within the PONDERFUL consortium
  • Interest in ecosystem research and nature-based solutions to mitigate climate change effects
  • Master of Science/University Diploma in (aquatic) ecology, limnology, environmental sciences or related fields
  • PhD in a related field
  • Competitive record of scientific achievements, demonstrated by scientific publications and externally funded grants
  • Experience with field work in aquatic systems is an advantage
  • Willingness to interact with local stakeholders
  • Working language is English, German skills are advantageous
  • Driving license for cars

Salary is paid according to the German salary scheme for the public sector (TVöD Bund). The position is not suited for part-time work. It is a fixed-term position, limited to 36 months.
