Postdoc for the Leibniz Transfer Project GreenProtect (m/f/d)

a Sustainable Release System to Produce More Healthy Food with Less Pesticide with a scientific focus in biotechnology, biochemistry and/or plant sciences.

The GreenProtect project aims to develop and establish a sustainable crop protection technology that can reduce pesticide use and replace conventional pesticides. GreenProtect is based on the greenRelease technology developed at the DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials and RWTH Aachen University and patented by RWTH Aachen University. The core technology of greenRelease is a release system for pesticides or micronutrients based on microgels functionalized with adhesion promoting peptides. Adhesion promoting peptides enable rainfast adhesion and immobilization of microgels on the plant surface, while microgel containers enable controlled release of pesticides or micronutrients. Within the framework of GreenProtect, the greenRelease technology will be further developed to finally enable agricultural use on a large scale. Project partners in the GreenProtect project are the DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials in Aachen (Prof. Schwaneberg and Prof. Pich) and the IPB Leibniz Institute for Plant Biochemistry in Halle (Prof. Wesjohan and Dr. Davari).

Your tasks

  • Independent coordination of the GreenProtect project (planning, execution and evaluation of the scientific experiments, project management) 
  • Establishment and scaling of the GreenProtect crop protection technology: design, optimization through protein engineering and production of the adhesion promoting peptides.
  • Investigation of the GreenProtect technology at application conditions
  • Writing reports on project results and progress
  • Supervision of research internships, bachelor and master theses, PhD theses

Your profile

  • PhD in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, plant sciences or a related field with a very good degree.
  • Very good expertise in molecular biology and recombinant protein production (e.g. Escherichia coli) and protein purification
  • Expertise in scaling recombinant protein production in bioreactors advantageous
  • Experience in the development and application of (bio-based) pesticides and regulatory assessment of pesticides advantageous
  • Experience in managing projects and supervising research internships, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral theses advantageous
  • Independent and responsible-minded, strong communication skills and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently
  • Creative and flexible thinking and openness to interdisciplinary work
  • Very good English language skills, both written and spoken
  • Good knowledge of MS-Office applications
