Postdoc (m/f/d) Microbiome and Metabolism
Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI), Jena
The new research group “Microbiome and Metabolism” led by Dr. Clara Correia-Melo at the Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute is looking for an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Scientist.
Research focus of the Lab:
The Correia-Melo Laboratory studies the metabolic crosstalk between cells in health and disease, with particular focus on aging. The group explores three main areas of research: 1) host-microbiome metabolic crosstalk during ageing; 2) metabolic microenvironment as a driver of disease initiation and progression and 3) therapy-induced metabolic microenvironment leading to disease persistence. Discoveries at all three levels will potentially translate into interventions that support better health through innovative metabolism-targeting therapies. The lab combines classical molecular biology methods with high-throughput quantitative multi-omics and systems biology approaches.
Tasks and Challenges:
We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral scientist that is enthusiastic to explore the metabolic crosstalk of aging cells and their interactions with the microbiome. The successful applicant will work on cutting-edge research projects using a wide range of techniques, including high-throughput robotics and metabolomics, and will work with mammalian and microbial cell models.
The postdoctoral scientist will contribute to shape the research group and develop independence by leading his/her own projects, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis (both in the lab and with external collaborators) and guide Master and/or PhD students in their research. The Postdoc will also have the opportunity to participate in grant application writing and preparation of manuscripts.
Requirements:
- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field
- Technical expertise in Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS)
- Published or submitted research articles or patents
- Strong commitment and work ethics
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
will be a plus:
- Technical expertise in performing microbial and/or mammalian cell culture
- Programming skills in R or other programming languages
- Enthusiasm to handle large datasets
