PostDoc position (2 µm driver for HHG) (m/f/d)

Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy (MBI), Berlin

The Max-Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy (MBI) conducts basic research in the field of nonlinear optics and ultrafast dynamics arising from the interaction of light with matter and pursues applications that emerge from this research. It develops and uses ultra-fast and ultra-intense lasers and laser-driven short-pulse light sources in a broad spectral range in combination with methods of nonlinear spectroscopy. With its research, MBI fulfills a national mission and is an integral part of the international scientific community.

MBI invites applications for a

PostDoc position (2 µm driver for HHG) (m/f/d)

Job profile:

The research group plays an internationally leading role in the generation of ultrashort pulses with high peak powers in the mid-infrared. This research enables new applications in condensed matter physics. The successful applicant will be a member of a team of laser researchers and work on the generation of ultrashort pulses in the 2-µm spectral range. Few-cycle pulses will be generated in novel solid-state laser sources and/or with sophisticated methods of nonlinear optics. Integral part of the work will be numerical calculations of nonlinear pulse propagation and the spatio-temporal pulse properties as well as applications of the system, such as high harmonic generation.

Requirements:

The successful applicant holds an above-average PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or a related subject. We expect a strong commitment for doing research as well as profound knowledge and experimental expertise in at least two of the following subjects: nonlinear optics, laser physics, ultrashort pulse generation, parametric frequency conversion, and solid-state physics.

Offer:

MBI offers a 2-year appointment. The payment is according to the German TVöD Bund salary scheme for scientists in public research institutions.

If equally qualified, severely handicapped persons are given preference. MBI is an equal opportunity employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.

MBI supports the reconcilability of family and working life and is certified as a family-friendly by the "family audit".

Please upload your application, including cover letter, curriculum vitae, certificates and description of previous professional activities electronically via the MBI online recruiting platform at https://mbi-berlin.de/career. The deadline for applications is January 31st, 2022.
