Low-Temperature ALD of Quantum Materials and Precursor Synthesis
We are searching for a postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) at the Institute for Metallic Materials (IMW) of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW Dresden) with a background in inorganic chemistry and focusing on solution and gas phase based atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes. The candidate (m/f/d) is expected to have a basic understanding of solid-state physics and electrical transport mechanisms. Her/his research activities focus on the development of growth by ALD or MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) of 2D Materials (2DM) with low-bandgaps, topological insulators (TI) like Bi2Se3 and Bi2Te2S and superconductors (SC) like NbSe2.
We offer collaboration with various IMW research teams working on quantum and energy materials: Nanograined Bulk Thermoelectric Materials (Dr. Ran He), Microstructured Thermoelectric Devices (Dr. Heiko Reith), Fundamental Transport in Thermoelectric and Topological Materials (Dr. Nicolas Perez), Quantum Materials and Devices (Dr. Andy Thomas) and Superconducting Nanodevices (Dr. Nicola Poccia). In the future, she/he should make significant contributions to at least one of the following research activities:
- MOCVD of TI and SC
- Solution based ALD of 2DM, TI and SC
- Development of ALD Precursors
Therefore, we consider applicants (m/f/d) who have a profound knowledge in the solution and gasphase synthesis of nanomaterials, ALD or MOCVD of semiconducting materials or precursor development and testing, as well as a PhD in inorganic chemistry. Experience as a postdoc at a research institution abroad and in the former supervision of students is beneficial for this position. Applicants (m/f/d) having additional research experience in industry are encouraged to apply. The postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) will manage the laboratory for innovative ALD processes at the IMW and will have the opportunity to build up a research team in order to expand the research profile of the IMW within the IFW Dresden.
The salary will be based upon the TV-L rules (TV-L E 13, 100%). The first contract will be limited to 2 years (Science Employment Law), during which the young scientist shall establish her/his own research actives, apply for additional third-party funded projects and contribute to research initiatives at the IFW Dresden. In case of a successful evaluation, showing significant publications as well as a third-party funded project, the postdoctoral researcher will be promoted to a junior research group leader including a contract extension of up to 4 years. In this second phase, the focus will be on the further qualification of the junior group leader, which might lead to the habilitation and/or to the successful acquisition of an ERC Starting Grant or a comparable project.
