FutureLab “CERES: Political Economy for Inclusive Wealth Governance and Sustainability”,

PIK is offering a

Postdoctoral position on Game-Theoretic Modelling (m/f/d).

 (Position number: 47-2022 PostDoc Game-Theoretic Modelling)

in the field of international relations theory, starting on 01.03.2023. The position is funded for two years. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week.

Applications should have a background in formal modeling, ideally both in theoretical and numerical modeling approaches. A sound knowledge of political science in the international governance realm is an asset, as well as a background in climate change economics.

Key responsibilities:

  • Advancing the understanding of free-riding incentives when countries differ in their political governance systems, their endowment with natural resources and their wealth under different scenarios of climate change,
  • Developing models to study the effectiveness of instruments to further climate change mitigation,
  • Map out recommendations for designing climate agreements between countries.


  • Graduation (PhD/Dr) in economics, mathematics, operations research, political science, computer science or a related field,
  • Knowledge of the research areas game theory, international relations, climate change, climate change mitigation and inequality,
  • Training in formal and quantitative methods,
  • Excellent analytical skills and interest in theoretical and applied modeling,
  • Demonstrated experience in publishing and presenting scientific work,
  • Fluency in English.
