for two years.

Research area:

The new research group for Pressurized Cultivations is part of the Bio Pilot Plant at Leibniz-HKI. One essential focus of the Bio Pilot Plant is the process development for rather unknown microbial systems to discover new secondary metabolites and to generate them in relevant amounts for further investigations. For this purpose, the new research group will investigate and demonstrate the potential of pressurized reactor systems for secondary metabolite production.

The postdoc position will focus on two applications of a pressure reactor cascade: In the first research area, microbial systems with a strong catabolic repression of secondary metabolites will be of interest; the second field will focus on the cultivation of co-culture systems to generate unknown secondary metabolites due to interspecies interactions. Work will take place in a dynamic and highly motivated group. Within the group, the postdoc will experience a strong support based on lively collaboration and friendly interaction between the interdisciplinary scientists and access to state-of-art equipment. In addition, the applicant will have all possibilities to realize own innovative ideas and develop new projects while contributing to the organization within the research group for Pressurized Cultivations.

Main Requirements:

  • A PhD in the field of biochemical engineering or industrial biotechnology
  • Experience in bioprocess development (including basic knowledge in downstream technologies)
  • Strong knowledge in microbial cultivation techniques (MTP, shake flask, stirred tank reactor)
  • The candidate should embrace working in an international, interdisciplinary research team
  • Ability for team-oriented as well as creative and independent work
  • Very good communication skills in English
  • At least one publication as first author in a peer-reviewed journal

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in continuous cultivations
  • Knowledge about mass and energy transfer in bioreactor systems
  • Basic knowledge about co-culture cultivations
  • Experience in supervision of students
