at theLeibniz Institute for Materials Engineering (Leibniz-Institut für Werkstofforientierte Technologien – IWT) as well as an appointment to the Board of Directors of the IWT.

General conditions:

If the general civil service requirements are met, the professor is appointed to a temporary civil service position in grade W2, limited to five years under the tenure-track model.

Subsequently, the appointment to a tenured professorship in grade W3 is made without a new advertisement, establishing a civil service relationship for life, if the evaluation criteria specified in writing in the context of filling the tenure-track professorship and the hiring requirements for a tenured professorship are met. The appointment is based on §§ 18, 18a, 20 BremHG and §116 BremBG.

The University of Bremen and the Leibniz Institute for Materials Engineering - IWT cooperate successfully in teaching and research. The Leibniz-IWT is an institute of the Leibniz Association, whose research facilities in all fields of science are jointly funded by the federal and state governments. The professorship is filled in a joint procedure according to the Berlin Model, which includes research components at both the institute and the university.

Area of responsibility:

In the position to be filled here, you will shape the new, scientifically independent department at Leibniz-IWT. In particular, you will contribute your methodological expertise in order to advance the application of digitalization, modeling and simulation in the fields of materials, process and manufacturing engineering together with the other departments of Leibniz-IWT. You will continuously develop the methods required for this purpose, starting from a fundamental understanding of the underlying materials and processes in modeling and simulation.

In addition, you will competently represent the newly established research group of Knowledge-Based Digitalization in Materials-Oriented Production in teaching and research as part of a professorship in Faculty 4 - Production Engineering - Mechanical & Process Engineering at the University of Bremen. The personal union of the university professorship and the management function at the institute has proven itself over many years and is a guarantee for successful cooperation in research and teaching.

Position requirements:

We are looking for a scientist who has the potential to represent and further develop the field and the department in research and teaching.

The person to be appointed should be proven in the field of digitalization of materials and in production engineering contexts and have versatile experience in the application of different methods to engineering tasks. In addition, initial experience in the responsibility for research teams as well as in the acquisition and implementation of national and international research projects is desirable, whereby corresponding experience can also be acquired in or with industry.

The teaching area covers the fundamentals of digitalization in engineering for the bachelor's degree programs and advanced methods for modeling and simulation for the bachelor's and master's degree programs of Faculty 4 - Production Engineering. The ability and willingness to teach courses in German and English is required. Initially missing competences in one of the languages required for this purpose should be available by the time of the tenure evaluation at the latest. Participation in the academic self-administration and a contribution to the modernization and updating of the teaching and the study programs are naturally part of a professorship for you. Ideally, you have international work and teaching experience and are enthusiastic about working with young people.

It is desired that the appointee integrates into the scientific foci "Materials Science and Technologies" and "Minds, Media, Machines" (MAPEX Center for Materials and Processes, https://www.uni-bremen.de/en/mapex, and Minds, Media, Machines - MMM, https://minds-media-machines.de/en/homepage/) of the University of Bremen and is open for a connection to the Bremen Center for Computational Materials Science (BCCMS) as well as the "Research and Transfer Focus Aerospace" of the state (https://www.uni-bremen.de/en/aerospace-at-the-university-of-bremen).

The requirements for employment are a university degree in engineering or a comparable discipline, a relevant outstanding doctorate, pedagogical qualification as well as the willingness for further training in higher education and a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements, which can also have been achieved in an industrial environment. The ability and willingness to assume personnel responsibility as well as to form and further develop interdisciplinary project teams is a prerequisite. You are also expected to have a strong willingness to innovate and take initiative. Furthermore, competencies with regard to the consideration of gender & diversity dimensions in research, teaching and personnel responsibility are desired.
