Research Assistant (m/f/d)

(50% Position, salary group E13 TV-H)

We are looking for

a research assistant for the project “From Machine Learning to Machine Teaching (ML2MT) – Making Machines AND Humans Smarter” funded by Volkswagen Foundation with Prof. Pelizzon being one of the Principal Investigators. The project aims at a better understanding of how humans and machines in collaborative human-AI systems can unlock new knowledge from symbiotic interaction with each other. To this end, the consortium explores the analytical and technical foundations that account for success in transferring new knowledge from intelligent machines to humans and vice versa. This will be investigated in case studies from medical diagnostics, economic decision-making, and financial market forecasting using hybrid human-machine systems. The team wants to derive generalizable socio-technological and psychological findings and make recommendations to further improve the interaction between humans and machines. The research assistant will support the work on the institutional implications for the fields of finance and economics. He or she will conduct methodological and empirical studies examining the consequences of employing Machine Teaching applications.

Your Profile

  • Master-level degree in Economics, Banking and Finance or in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics and Engineering, or equivalent
  • Excellent performance in your field of study
  • Good background on financial economics
  • Excellent data handling and analytics skills
  • Very good knowledge of MATLAB, R, Python, or STATA
  • Good knowledge of financial databases like SNL, Eikon, Bloomberg etc.
  • Very good knowledge of the English language
  • The ability to work independently and on your own initiative
  • Flexibility and teamwork

We offer

the infrastructure of a modern research center with excellent contacts to the scientific and financial community. You will be working in a very attractive working environment in the House of Finance at Goethe University and an enthusiastic team of colleagues. Compensation will be 50% of a full-time position in accordance with the standards of the public services wage agreement of the State of Hesse (TV-H E 13). There would also be the possibility of enrolling in the Goethe German Doctorate. The employment contract has a duration until 31.03.2026.
