Research Assistant (m/f/d) Roving&Tape Processing

Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe (IVW), Kaiserslautern

The Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe (IVW) GmbH is one of the world's leading institutions in the field of composite materials. We investigate and develop the entire value chain of composites "from the scientific fundamentals to the component".

To strengthen our team we are looking for an employee for the competence field "Roving & Tape Processing":

Research Assistant (m/f/d)

in full time

Your tasks

The “Roving & Tape Processing” competency area deals, among other things, with the optimization and digitization of manufacturing process chains as well as material and process optimization. As part of the aviation research program, the joint project HESTIA, IVW will develop thermoplastic aircraft window frames of the future using recycled carbon fibers (rCF). The highly efficient processes of thermoplastic tape laying and injection molding are combined as an overall process chain for the production of window frames. Together with the use of recycled carbon fibers, this process route promises significant advantages in terms of lightweight construction potential, space optimization, costs, material waste, high volume production, and sustainability. In detail, the manufacturing process for the high-temperature rCF-tape used as well as the tape laying for the load path-appropriate injection molding insert should be optimized.
