Research Associate (Doctoral Candidate)

(Salary group 13 TV-L, 65%, limited to 3 years)

The department of Survey Design & Methodology (SDM) is both nationally and internationally recognized for its expertise in survey methodology, gained over many years by conducting own research as well as consulting on and implementing renowned survey projects.

The research associate position is within the project “Mechanisms of Panel Conditioning in Longitudinal Surveys” funded by the German Research Foundation. The project is an international cooperation between GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, ZPID - Leibniz Institute for Psychology Information, and Utrecht University.

Your tasks will be:

  • Planning and implementation of an experimental study on learning effects in panel surveys (panel conditioning), including the development and testing of the survey instrument using Questback online survey software (Unipark)
  • Assisting with the project coordination, preparation of project-related meetings, and supervision of two student research assistants
  • Conducting statistical analysis (e.g., regressions, longitudinal data analysis, SEM)
  • Writing scientific publications with the project team and presenting research findings to national and international audiences

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the social sciences (e.g., sociology, political science, psychology, survey methodology, or similar), ideally with a focus on quantitative methodology
  • Interest in obtaining a PhD degree within the research project
  • Experience in survey research and/or working with survey data, and experience with online survey (e.g., Unipark)
  • Very good knowledge of statistical analysis of longitudinal survey data (using R, Stata, and/or SPSS)
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) and conversational knowledge of German or willingness to learn German
  • Independent and proactive working style, good communication skills, and ability to work within an international team
