Research position (m/f/d)

(Position number: 49-2022 Postdoc/ PhD OVERHANG)

in the field of Economics and Finance, starting 1.2.2023 or later.

The position is renumerated in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week. The position can be filled on a part-time basis. We will consider postdoc researchers (to be hired for 2 years with an option for extension) as well as highly qualified PhD candidates (to be hired for 3 years) for the position.

The financial sector can facilitate or impede the transition to a low-carbon economy by providing the necessary capital. The position will investigate the interaction of climate policy and the behavior of financial intermediaries, e.g. their lending and risk management. How well is the financial sector equipped to provide finance for clean production at scale? How does ambitious carbon pricing affect firms and banks (and their balance sheets), and what are the implications for their ability to obtain or offer credit? And what are appropriate policies or financial regulation to prepare and support the financial sector in this challenge? If you are fascinated by these topics and enjoy applying economic modelling to find answers, you might be the person we are searching for!

Key responsibilities:

  • investigate the role of financial intermediation in the context of climate policy,   
  • apply existing theory and develop new models,
  • analyze the effect of financial sector policies and regulation,   
  • participate in project and stakeholder meetings and science-society dialogue,
  • present at international conferences and publish in academic journals.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • PhD or Master in economics or/and finance or equivalent,   
  • training in formal, quantitative methods,
  • excellent analytical skills and expertise in theoretical and applied modeling (optimization, equilibrium or stochastic modeling),
  • experience in programming and numerical solution approaches,
  • a strong motivation and team-oriented approach,
  • strong oral communication and writing skills in English,
  • experience in peer-reviewed publication and knowledge of German are advantages.
