Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), Müncheberg

The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to scientifically explain causal relationships in agricultural landscapes and to provide society with a knowledge base for the sustainable use of agricultural landscapes through excellent research. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

The project SattGrün develops innovative information products from the combination of simulation models and satellite data for the optimisation of grassland production with its complementary ecosystem services as web-based decision-making aids or fee-based field-specific consulting services.

We are offering a part-time position (60% of the regular weekly working time), limited to a maximum of 16 months, at our location in Müncheberg as

             Scientific Programmer (m/f/d)

Your tasks:

  • Assimilation of high-frequency time series of multi-spectral optical and SAR remote sensing data into simulation models
  • Performing and administering simulations on the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Facility
  • Implementing and deploying novel algorithms in standard coding languages such as Python, C++and R
  • Maintain modified and newly developed software and scripts using Github or other software source code version control systems
  • Technical support of the research group

Your qualifications:

  • academic degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Environmental Science or related area, with focus on simulation modelling and remote sensing
  • prove strong interest in data handling and analysis methods
  • Expertise, or experience in Python and C++ programming, visualization of simulation data 
  • be fluent in English (oral and written)
