student assistant (f/div/m) - Microbial Immunology

Fungi are an integral part of the human microbiome. Some species found as commensals can, however, also cause life threatening mycoses after translocation to the blood stream. The research group Microbial Immunologyat the Leibniz-HKI, investigates the interplay of one of these fungi, Candida albicans, with the gut microbiome, the host response to colonization, and the mechanisms leading to disease upon dissemination into the blood stream.

We offer

A student assistant position to support the team in performing molecular and microbiological methods. The student assistant will primarily prepare and organize consumables, as well as assist with sample processing. This includes labeling and organizing of plates for microbial cultures, processing and storing of tubes, as well as plating, counting and documenting of bacterial and fungal culture results.

We are looking for organized and motivated applicants with an interest in microbial infection biology and/or molecular biology. As an international group, we expect excellent communication skills in English. No prior practical knowledge is required but experimental background in molecular or microbiology is preferred (preferably advanced Bachelor or early Master stage students of Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology or Molecular Medicine).

The position includes approx. 40 hours of work per month with a flexible schedule.
