The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

The DFG-Project “HAIRphae” aims to test the concept of a plant economic trade-off between the investment into root surface maximization by root hairs and extraradical mycorrhizal hyphae in response to variation in soil nutrient stoichiometry. Assessing the trade-off between root hair growth and investment into mycorrhiza and its effect on plant N nutrition and soil N cycling

Your tasks:

  1. conducting a pot experiment in spring 2023
  2. plant and soil sampling and sample preparation
  3. analysis of root hair length and mycorrhization
  4. statistical analysis of results

Your qualifications:

  1. study in soil, agricultural, or environmental sciences
  2. interest in biological and agroecological aspects
  3. good English skills
  4. knowledge in the use of statistical software
