For Wellcome Trust funded DESTINY project, PIK, located at EUREF Campus in Berlin-Schöneberg, is looking for
Student Assistants (m/f/d)
(Position number: 10-2025 SHK Destiny)
in the field of Climate and Health, starting as soon as possible.
The position is funded for 1 year. The remuneration is determined according to the guidelines of the TdL. The current hourly rate for a student assistant with a Bachelor's degree is 14,59 € (without a Bachelor's degree 13,98 €). This is a part-time position with a weekly working time of 15 hours per week. A working time of 10 or 20 hours per week may be possible.
The positions are situated in the boundary-shifting project “Digital Evidence Synthesis Tool INnovation Yielding Improvements in Climate & Health” (DESTINY) funded by the Wellcome Trust. DESTINY will leverage the most recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) to co-develop a new generation of digital evidence synthesis tools (DESTs) and showcase their transformational power for the delivery of rigorous living evidence in climate and health that matters to policymakers and other evidence users. In DESTINY, PIK is leading an eclectic international consortium involving the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the EPPI-Centre (UCL), Future Evidence Foundation, the African Synthesis Centre for Climate Change, Environment and Development (University of Cape Town), the African Centre for Rapid Evidence Synthesis (ACRES) as well as effective Basic Services (eBASE) Africa.
Key responsibilities:
- Support evidence synthesis activities (systematic reviews, systematic maps) in the field of climate and health;
- Identify, search for, and select relevant academic and policy literature;
- Extract, code, and standardize data from selected studies;
- Manage and organize data from multiple sources;
- Learn and apply critical appraisal techniques to assess study quality;
- Assist in synthesizing findings, including data analysis and result visualization;
- Learn about the responsible use of AI for evidence synthesis and how to set and implement rigorous evaluation exercises;
- Provide general support for the daily operations of the Evidence for Climate Solutions Group.
You are a Bachelor or Master student with:
- A background in economics, environmental sciences, quantitative social or political science, psychology, or related fields;
- The ability to read and understand scientific literature;
- Ideally work experience in a scientific work context;
- A sound understanding of evidence synthesis (e.g. meta-analysis, systematic review, systematic map) or how to set up tool evaluations - as a strong asset;
- Preferably experience in data management and programming skills.
