The Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) conducts research for the sustainable production of vegetables and healthy nutrition for people all over the world. The IGZ is an institute of the Leibniz Association.

At the IGZ, the following position in the research group "Development Economics and Food Security" of Professor Tilman Brück is available immediately and initially limited until December 31, 2021:

Student/Research Assistant (f/m/d)

"Quantitative Research Assistant"

(On a mini-job basis, 450,- Euro monthly salary, just under 40 hours/month)

The Research Assistant will work on the project "Life with Corona - Africa" (LwC-Africa). LwC-Africa aims to advance our understanding of how the pandemic is affecting health, food, work, gender, and social cohesion outcomes in order to better prepare communities and governments to respond to the challenges ahead. To that end, we are currently conducting repeated cross-sectional phone-based surveys in four African countries.

Tasks include:

  • Regularly monitor data quality and provide feedback to the survey teams
  • Assist in compiling and cleaning secondary data related to the project
  • Assisting in the preparation of literature and research findings
  • Assist in communication with IGZ and partner organizations

We expect:

  • A highly motivated student with a background in economics, agricultural economics, or related fields
  • Basic econometric knowledge and experience with STATA and/or R
  • High motivation and interest in the research topic
  • Ability to work in a team and reliability
  • Good communication skills in English and German language
