Data Science Specialistfor Scientific Computing

in full time/part-time (d/m/w)

to support a new technology platform for scientific computing as part of the ‘Viral Data Science’ initiative:

The aim of the initiative ‘Viral Data Science' is to complement the rapid technological development in the LIV working groups and technology platforms as well as the continuously growing data volumes with a science-driven, central infrastructure for scientific computing that brings together complex data volumes, stores them sustainably and analyses them in a structured manner.

Your responsibilities

  • Installation, adaptation and, if necessary application of scientific software on HPC cluster
  • Installation, implementation and maintenance of data analysis workflows
  • User training, tutorials and advice on data analysis and experimental implementation in close cooperation with the other members of the TP Viral Data Science (introductory level as well as in-depth training for advanced users)
  • Providing advice on how to perform complex scientific data analyses
  • Development of new workflows, expanding documentation
  • Interaction with platform coordinator and IT-department
  • Help in organizing the storage of large amounts of biological data
  • Create an environment to support the efficient use of machine learning algorithms
  • Development of new workflows, expanding software documentation

The postdoctoral researcher will benefit from the vibrant scientific environment of LIV. They will also participate in international scientific conferences, workshops and events to disseminate their results

Our requirements

  • University degree, preferably a PhD, in the natural sciences, ideally in bioinformatics, data science, biostatistics or computer science, or equivalent skills and significant experience in any of these fields
  • Very good programming skills, ideally knowledge of Python and possibly C++, Java, as well as SQL and/or Cypher
  • Linux knowledge
  • Knowledge in data science and/or image processing is an advantage
  • Experience in developing machine learning algorithms and AI tools would be an advantage
  • Experience in developing and supporting software tools for the computational biology community would be an advantage
  • Broad knowledge of statistics (and statistical software packages) and state-of-the art tools for multiomic data analyses is an advantage
  • Independent, conscientious and structured working style
  • Good German & English proficiency (working language is English)
