The Heinrich-Pette-Institute (HPI) is a research institute of interregional and international importance. The institute sees its sociopolitical and scientific mission in basic and application oriented research in the field of experimental virology. In accordance with the statutes of the institute, the focus of the work lies in the investigation of the biology of human pathogenic viruses, the pathogenesis of viral diseases, the defense reactions of the organism and related problems.
