The objective of the Leibniz Institute for Materials Engineering — IWT is to carry out multidisciplinary basic and applied research in metalworking. The IWT is the only research centre in Germany that has united the three disciplines materials science, process engineering and manufacturing technologies as equal-ranking divisions working together under one roof. Thanks to this structure, the IWT is able to solve technological problems for metalworking companies on the interdisciplinary level without the usual time-consuming process of “coordinate and consent”. Established at the campus of the University of Bremen, the IWT’s know-how is supplemented through close networking with other research institutions and fields of the faculty Manufacturing Process of the University of Bremen.
