Postdoctoral researcher (gn)

(Reference number: 237 IBE)

to engage with the various projects of the working group and to develop own research in the field of institutional analysis about economic developments of tropical marine social ecological systems. Currently many sectors relying on marine resources are expanding, might it be aquaculture, marine energy or marine tourism, to mention a few. Many countries are trying with their blue economy strategies to explore new sectors in the marine realm. A lot of collective dilemmas come along with these developments and it is a challenge to manage our seas in a sustainable way. Society becomes more and more aware that the sea can be a solution to many sustainability challenges, like hunger or energy, but it is also risking to lose its ability to provide many of the services we rely on (ecologic, but importantly also social and economic). This requires new institutions to emerge. If you are interested to develop research closely connected to people in the tropical belt and their sustainability challenges, then you are the right person for the ZMT. Our group currently focusses on Western Africa, tropical Latin America and Indonesia. Interest in those geographic regions are welcome. Depending on the point in your career, joint applications for projects or the application for an own junior research group are envisaged.
