Postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d)

Leibniz-Zentrum für Marine Tropenforschung GmbH (ZMT), Bremen

The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Bremen is a member of the Leibniz Association, which is supported by the German Federal and State Governments. Through its research, ZMT contributes to developing strategies for sustainable use of tropical coastal systems.

The working group Submarine Groundwater Discharge is looking for a

Postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d)

(Reference number: 207-RETAKE)

in the RETAKE (‘Marine carbon sinks in decarbonization pathways’) subproject ‘Conceptional modeling of sediment hydrodynamics on ocean alkalinization’. The project aims at analyzing the influence of seafloor hydrology on the efficiency of alkalinity enhancement applications by chemical rock weathering in coastal environments. The project will rely on numerical reactive transport modeling in a realistic but theoretical parameter space and mapping applications. The researcher will perform the modeling, publish the results and exchange information with the project partners. The position will be embedded in the working group “Submarine Groundwater discharge” at ZMT which offers a diverse research environment ranging from local scale field analyses to global scale modeling approaches.

Requirements:

  • Strong skills in reactive transport modeling of groundwater, preferably in a coastal environment
  • Extensive experience in relevant numerical modeling software (e.g. FeFlow, SEAWAT)
  • Geochemical understanding of rock weathering and/or the freshwater-saltwater mixing interface
  • Experience in application of GIS software
  • A PhD degree in the fields of hydrogeology, geochemistry, marine sciences or similar
  • Excellent English writing skills and proven inclination to scientific publishing
  • A strong interest to work in an interdisciplinary and solution-oriented environment
  • Curiosity, creativity and intrinsic motivation for the research topic

Please contact Prof. Dr. Nils Moosdorf (nils.moosdorf(at)leibniz-zmt.de) for further information.

We offer:

  • An exciting working environment in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented institute
  • A highly motivated, solution oriented and inspiring group of colleagues
  • Embedding in a large consortium within the German Marine Science landscape
  • A family-friendly diverse working environment

The position should be filled from November 1st 2021. The contract will limited to 30 months. Salary will be paid according to the German TV-L EG 13 (100%). ZMT is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants with a migration background are welcome. Disabled persons with comparable qualification receive preferential status.

Please send your application (motivation letter, complete CV, publication list, contact details of two referees, copy of the relevant certificates) until August 15th, 2021 as a single pdf file with the reference number “207– RETAKE” to Ms. Lena Oehlmann, bewerbung(at)leibniz-zmt.de.

We will be happy to accept your documents without a photo.
