LIfBi Lectures: "Educational Technologies and Teaching Quality: The Role of Teachers, Students, and Beyond"

Foto LIFBI

Technology integration is widely recognized as essential for enhancing student learning and preparing them to participate in a digital society. Drawing on utilization-of-learning-opportunities frameworks, technology integration is understood as a complex interplay between teacher competencies, the availability and adaptability of technologies, and students’ prerequisites and outcomes. This lecture will present findings from recent studies based on the TPTI model (Lachner et al., 2024), focusing on teacher competencies and the instructional effectiveness of educational technologies, with a particular emphasis on adaptive teaching and the use of generative AI. These findings will be discussed in light of the current challenges in technology integration.

Andreas Lachner is professor of education with a focus on teaching and learning with educational technology and co-director of the Tübingen Center for Digital Education. His research activities include promoting (meta-)cognitive and motivational learning processes by using educational technologies (e.g., computer-based feedback, video explanations, or artificial intelligence). Another focus of his work is the development and implementation of adaptive teaching scenarios. Additionally, he is involved in enhancing strategies for teachers’ professional development in the context of technology integration.

The LIfBi Lectures series is an open scientific dialogue platform across all of the Institute´s departments and disciplines. Especially for junior scientists, the lectures series provides an opportunity for networking and interdisciplinary dialogue in various formats around the presentations.

All lectures are planned as hybrid events, on-site at LIfBi and online via Zoom.
