As the central institution for science, practice and politics of adult and continuing education in Germany, we are interested in the exciting questions of teaching and learning of adults, which we research, explain and communicate. We do this through basic research and by transferring these findings and data into practice and educational policy, with which we support those acting in the field of continuing education and contribute to improving the governance of the education sector. The DIE uses proven channels to facilitate the transfer: publications, portals and practice networks.
The research activities focus on adult learning with its preconditions, forms and effects. The research covers all areas of continuing education: the learning processes of adults, the didactic design of offers, the personnel, the organization and management of continuing education institutions in different institutional contexts and the continuing education system with its financial, political and legal aspects.
