We are interested in the communication between microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae, and amoebae, but also in the interaction of pathogenic microorganisms - especially fungi - with the host. Thus, we explore the strategies pathogenic microorganisms use to overcome the immune system. In addition, we are investigating fundamental principles of immune system function, in particular those of T cells.
Our research is the basis for future diagnostics and intervention strategies. In view of rising numbers of fungal infections and antibiotic resistance worldwide, there is an immense need for new approaches. With our biotechnological expertise, we are also further developing the production of natural substances and closely linking basic research with application.
