The central questions of the IEG research programme are continuously further developed with the help of digital methods and procedures. At the IEG, Digital Historical Research comprises both the conception and realisation of innovative forms of publication and the development of methods and tools for digital humanities and their application.
With its international fellowship programme, the institute supports PhDs and Postdocs from Germany and abroad. The Senior Research Fellowship Programme offers the opportunity to pursue one's own research interests at the IEG. In cooperation with organizations abroad and in Germany (for example, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the DAAD) the Institute is also open to externally funded guest researchers.
With its renowned publication series the IEG presents its research results in book form and as e-book. "IEG digital" combines the digital services, which mainly consist of Open Access publications. The institute's library with its rich holdings on international and European history as well as on the history of the Church and theology is open to the public.
