The Leibniz Institute of European History investigates the historical foundations of Europe. The research is developed in interdisciplinary cooperation of the departments of "Abendländische Religionsgeschichte" and "Universalgeschichte". The three research areas "Pluralisation and Marginality", "Sacralisation and Descaralisation", "Mobility and the Drawing of Boundaries" examine the religious, cultural and political dimensions of the current research programme on negotiating differences in early modern and modern Europe.
