The central concern of ZEW’s research is to analyse and design markets and institutions that allow for the sustainable and efficient development of knowledge-based economies in Europe. Founded in 1991, ZEW acts as a guide through economic change by keeping decision-makers in politics and enterprises, the scientific community and the public informed on its latest research and providing further training to researchers and business leaders alike. ZEW maintains a multitude of cooperative international partnerships and is, together with the University of Mannheim, home of the Leibniz ScienceCampi “Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation” (MaCCI) and “Mannheim Taxation” (MaTax), two scientific competence centres with an excellent international reputation.
