Leibniz Research Network "Bioactive Compounds"

In their many forms, biologically active substances − whether natural or synthetic in origin −, play an essential role in our everyday life. However, many problems are still to be solved, such as incurable diseases, resistant bacteria, reduced yields caused by climate change or environmentally friendly plant protection. Global change and societal challenges demand a flexible and broad response, in which bioactive compounds play a publicly little known but crucial role. However, no Leibniz Institute alone covers all aspects of bioactives development from their discovery to the clinic, field or consumer.

The Leibniz Research Network “Bioactive Compounds” involves Leibniz Institutes from four sections of the Leibniz Association. It provides a better integration and increases the value chain for its members, working on drug development, crop protection and related fields, well beyond the fragmented possibilities of single working groups or institutes.

The main goal of the proposed Leibniz Research Network is the further development of the subject-related communication platform, where the participating institutes, as well as external partners can exchange subject-based, methodological and technical expertise. This framework enables improved and expanded further development of methodical-technical competencies.
