Our more than 50 specialised laboratories enable us to conduct research at the highest international level. In close cooperation with industry, we develop plasma-based processes and products or transfer these innovations to the market through spin-offs, true to the motto: „From idea to prototype“.
Our research is driven by the needs of society and the marketplace. We currently focus on five research programmes.
The research programme Agriculture, Bioeconomy, Environment develops innovative plasma technologies for a sustainable circular economy in agriculture and food production. The focus is on chemical-free crop protection, food sanitation, water and air treatment, and the decomposition of biogenic waste.
The research programme Plasma Medicine investigates the interactions of plasmas with cells and tissues and develops new medical applications. The focus is on the treatment of skin diseases, infections and cancer, and the development of new therapies for immunomodulation.
The research programme Surfaces & Materials develops plasma-based processes for surface modification and materials synthesis for industrial and medical applications. The focus is on bio-inspired electronics, sustainable surface treatment and new materials for energy and environmental technologies.
The research programme Process & Energy Technology investigates plasma-based methods for decarbonising industrial processes and reducing emissions in energy technology. The focus is on the electrification of industrial processes, the use of plasma in circular economy conversion processes and the use of vacuum switching technology.
The research programme Smart Data Technologies develops methods for the simulation and data-based analysis of plasmas and technological applications. The aim is to provide and intelligently use data and knowledge for product and process optimisation.
