Medical translational research
Around a quarter of all Leibniz institutes are active in medical translational research. These projects range from investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the onset of diseases to researching infectious diseases, ageing, nutrition, prevention and active pharmaceutical substances, and conducting applied research on new diagnostic and treatment methods.
The translation of research findings into medical practice requires suitable preclinical models, access to biobanks, data and patients, and expertise in approval processes and the conduct of clinical trials. The road to a new diagnostic, preventative or therapeutic method is usually complex, lengthy and costly.
The Leibniz Association uses its broad expertise in health research to strengthen this translation process. Through its interdisciplinary research and existing close collaboration with hospitals, it creates optimum conditions for the rapid translation of scientific innovations into practice.
